Merrill's Egg Farm
has been a respected
Idaho 'institution' for
over fifty years.
In 1952
in the small farm community of Eagle, Idaho, a young
entrepreneur named Reid Merrill bought 200 baby
chicks from his uncle, put them in an old barn
filled with straw and wood shavings, and waited for
that simple yet wondrous process to begin. Eggs!
So began a lifetime journey filled
with ups and downs, profits and tragedies. What
began as a small flock of hand-fed hens and
hand-collected eggs is now Merrill's Egg Farm—a
fully automated and computerized operation
delivering over a quarter of a million eggs per day
throughout the Treasure Valley in Idaho.
Today Merrill's Egg Farm is
located in Emmett, Idaho (a few country miles from
Eagle) surrounded by beautiful farmland and fruit orchards. The farm is now operated by
Reid’s son, Galan, and grandsons, Sean and Luke, as
well as other family members.
Three generations of honest business dealings, friendly
service, hard work, and, of course, exceptional eggs
have turned Merrill’s Eggs into a household name
throughout Idaho.
Over the years Grandpa Merrill
used aged chicken manure on his lawn and garden and
knew that nothing worked as well to produce healthy
plants and LOTS of delicious and nutritious fruits and vegetables. The word
spread, and for years our friends and family around
the valley would bring their trucks out to the farm and
load up with piles of rich, composted poultry
manure. (We certainly had enough to share!)
In 1991, we took a good idea and
made it a GREAT idea. We began the process
of managing our waste in a more environmentally friendly manner.
Recycling our poultry waste into a safe, effective, organic
product that was both beneficial and
user-friendly was our ultimate goal.
Our endeavors led us to
large-scale organic composting. We took the experiences that
Grandpa Merrill shared with us over the years and
extended it further with advanced research,
exacting methods, and extensive experimentation and
testing.
The results have been nothing
short of phenomenal! Now Merrill's is not only known
for the best-tasting, most nutritious eggs
around...Merrill's is now the 'gold standard' for
compost products, and we take great pride in
continuing to perfect our processes
to bring you the highest quality compost possible.
Recently Merrill's was honored to
become Rodale Organic Gardening Certified and join
the Rodale Quality Assurance Program.
We
continue to develop high quality,
environmentally friendly products such as our
exciting new Compost Tea. We
invite you to try our premium-quality organic
compost products and enjoy the difference you'll see
in your lawn and gardens!
